There is also a large island you can hike on with more river access on the backside.
No. The Colorado River is a natural Texas river and fluctuates throughout the year. The river floods several times a year and the water level drastically increases for a few days before dropping back to a normal flow rate. This allows fish to swim upstream from Lake Buchanan and restocks the river with fish. There is almost always water in the river except during extreme drought conditions. The river can get very low and almost completely dry up during late summer on very dry years. Contact us to check on current water levels.
There are several spots to fish around the cabins. The water is not deep directly below the cabins so most of the better spots can be accessed via a short hike from your cabin. The Colorado Bend State Park has a lot of river access for fishing and kayaking and usually has the deepest water in the area. Fishing usually slows down during late summer as the river goes down unless there is abundant rainfall. Fishing is best during the fall, spring and early summer but fish can be caught year round.
